Foreign seasonal workers from Europe

Foreign employees who work in the Netherlands are often obliged to take out a (basic) health insurance with a Dutch health insurance provider during their working period in the Netherlands. This obviously applies to foreign seasonal workers as well.

Although it is the responsibility of the employee, it is both in the interest of the employee and the employer that these issues are arranged properly in advance. Since foreign employees are often not fully aware of the Dutch laws on social insurance and health insurance, you being the employer should inform all of your foreign seasonal workers well in advance about the rules regarding these issues.

If you do not inform your employees properly about these issues, you run the risk that your valuable workers are not entitled to proper healthcare during the time they work for you. Furthermore, chances are that you might be held liable when problems occur, because did not inform your employees well enough about the risks and eventual consequences.

Key considerations with foreign seasonal workers

  • For foreign seasonal workers a health insurance is obligatory
